Douglas Velásquez Jácome, RTVC’s general manager, explained the actual state of the TDT (Digital Television) implementation in Colombia, in interview with Colombian National Radio.

In this interview, RTVC’s general manager assured that digital television network implementation is not going to stop, because financial resources are guaranteed. At the same time, Mr. Velasquez emphasized as important advantages of TDT in front analog system, the high quality of sound and video.
Velasquez Jacome explained that, in order to get a TDT – TV signal, it’s necessary to have a DBV-T tuner (DBV-T, the European digital standard chosen by Colombia). The signal is available too in televisions that incorporate the DBV-T tuner. General Manager estimate DBV-T tuner costs nearly US$30 – 50 dollars, which it could be subsidy.
In the same way, RTVC’s general manager stated that digital television contents develop has advance in a positive way for public channels. “We just don’t need the digital network, we must have high quality digital contents production. RTVC is working in positive way in this aspect, as private channels, which have been working in the same line”.
About TDT network implementation, Velasquez explained there is a strategy that plans digital signal coverage in five principal cities in two years, complemented with an additional plan (five years) for intermediate cities.
